In the early 1980’s Penny Haley introduced her original calzones because she recognized that the Italian staple would be a hit in the US. As she hoped, her calzone was popular and as the demand grew, she opened her first store in Amherst, MA in 1987. Fast forward to today and now there are nearly two dozen stores in ten different states, all offering a wide variety of calzones, all oven-baked when ordered. Mike came across DP Dough several years ago and quickly fell in love with the place. After speaking with the owners of the Delaware store, he approached the rest of the team with an idea – D.P. Dough Philly. The four of us (Mike, Scott, Jacquie, and Jason) quickly hunkered down with the goal of opening our very own store in 2007. As we quickly found out, there’s quite a bit more time required than we initially expected. Needless to say, we stuck with it, learned the process from the ground up, had some fun and are now excited to present D.P. Dough to University City in the winter of 2008. We’re sure that you will fall in love with the Zones as much as we did. Whether you are looking for an afternoon meal, dinner at the office, late night food for studying, or late late late night food before you go home at night, we’re here for you. If you catch us at the store, tell us in person which Zone is your favorite! |
